When Light Carves Through
When Light Curves Through unfolds through translucent layers of warm ochre, muted rose, mineral aqua, ivory and deep blue. Light seems to move through the painting not in a straight path, but by curving around darker passages, disappearing beneath veils of colour and quietly re-emerging elsewhere.
Scraped surfaces, softened edges and traces of earlier layers give the work a distinctly wabi-sabi sensibility. Nothing is entirely revealed or concealed. Forms hover at the threshold of recognition and then dissolve again, inviting the eye to move slowly through the painting rather than settle upon a single image.
The deeper blues and earth tones create a sense of grounding, while the pale, luminous passages seem almost weightless. Between them lies the veil of the title—a shifting boundary between what can be seen and what can only be sensed.
The painting reflects the idea that light does not always overcome darkness by removing it. Sometimes it finds another way through.
