Jhadten Jewall is a Canadian abstract painter working in oil and cold wax. After completing BA and MA degrees at Dalhousie University and a PhD at the University of Basel, Switzerland, he spent ten years in Switzerland and eight years in Tokyo studying European and Asian art traditions as well as Zen disciplines. Following his move to Vancouver in 1993, he explored digital art as a means of expressing energetic and subtle phenomena. Studies in watercolor, acrylics, and oils eventually led to a breakthrough discovery in 2026: the expressive possibilities of oil and cold wax, which became his primary artistic medium.

Veils of Presence: Paintings of Light, Memory, and Atmosphere
Veils of Presence is a series of abstract oil and cold wax paintings exploring light, atmosphere, memory, and transformation.
Built through numerous translucent layers of pigment and wax, the paintings evolve through a process of concealment and revelation. Scraping, veiling, and reworking create surfaces that hold traces of their own history, allowing earlier passages to remain visible beneath later ones.
While inspired by natural phenomena such as mist, water, weather, blossoms, and shifting light, the works do not depict specific locations. Instead they seek to evoke experiences of stillness, wonder, and quiet recognition.
The exhibition invites viewers into contemplative spaces where color and texture become carriers of emotion and memory. Each painting offers an open field of interpretation, encouraging personal reflection and discovery.
